Since its creation in 2012, the Sky-Dweller has been designed for those who view the world as an open, borderless territory. It allows travellers to avoid the pitfalls of time changes, always staying one step ahead.
Rolex Sky-Dweller
High-altitude Style
Elegant and technically sophisticated, the Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller was designed for those who are always traveling from one end of the planet to the other. Equipped with the Saros annual calendar and the Ring Command system, it simultaneously displays two time zones, as well as the date and month, adjustable with a simple gesture.
Extremely innovative, the Sky-Dweller combines sophisticated technology with an original display.
The second time zone at a glance
The Sky-Dweller simultaneously displays the time in a second time zone and local time, which is indicated by the centre hands. The second time zone (or “reference time”) is indicated by a small triangle, which is highly legible thanks to its red profile, on the rotating 24-hour disc. A distinctive feature of the model, this off-centre disc makes it possible to distinguish between night and day hours without ambiguity – a significant advantage for those travelling to the other side of the world.
An innovative and intuitive annual calendar
Specially developed for the Sky-Dweller, the patented Saros annual calendar is a key element of the model’s identity. The name of this mechanism, with its innovative design, is inspired by the Greek term for the cycle of lunar and solar eclipses.
The Saros calendar automatically distinguishes between 30- and 31-day months. It therefore requires only one manual date correction per year, between February and March. It is intuitive and easy to read. The current month is indicated in red in one of the twelve apertures that punctuate the hour markers along the edge of the dial.
This watchmaking innovation is based on two gear ratios and only four additional gear wheels added to Rolex's instantaneous date mechanism. The essential structure gives the Saros annual calendar excellent reliability.
Ring Command System
Time under control
Developed by Rolex, the patented Ring Command system is an innovative mechanism for interaction between the rotatable bezel, winding crown, and movement. It allows the wearer to easily, quickly, and securely select the Sky-Dweller’s various functions, which can then be adjusted using the winding crown.
By rotating the fluted bezel counter-clockwise (which features a more pronounced profile for easier handling), the function to be adjusted can be selected. First click: date and month. Second click: local time. Third click: reference time.
For the citizens of the world
Golfers, sailors or equestrians… world travellers must always be prepared, no matter their destination or how far they have to go.
Rolex Testimonees who have adopted the Sky-Dweller include Spanish golfer Jon Rahm, Brazilian skipper Robert Scheidt, and American show jumping champion Kent Farrington.
