Oyster Perpetual watches have accompanied numerous Himalayan expeditions – including the one that included Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the two mountaineers who first reached the summit of Everest on May 29, 1953 – and have been worn by intrepid explorers who have ventured to the ends of the earth, into deserts, to the poles and into the bowels of the Earth. In these often unknown and inhospitable environments, distinguishing day from night can become impossible. For speleologists who spend entire days without seeing sunlight and polar expeditions that may encounter the midnight sun or polar night, the Explorer II's 24-hour display is a fundamental part of their equipment.
Rolex Explorer II
The watch for explorers
The Oyster Perpetual Explorer II is the watch of choice for men and women who venture to the ends of the earth, often in extreme environments.
Thanks to its 24-hour display, it unequivocally distinguishes daytime from nighttime hours.
High mountains, oceans, volcanoes, and polar regions have always been testing grounds for Rolex.
Designed for Exploration
The Explorer II, introduced in 1971 and faithful to the same spirit as the Explorer, further strengthens Rolex’s close relationship with the world of exploration. Thanks to its 24-hour display, consisting of an additional orange hand and a graduated bezel, the Explorer II makes it possible to unequivocally distinguish day from night – a practical option where it is difficult to do so, such as at the poles at certain times of the year or inside caves – or to read a second time zone.
Oyster Bracelet
The Explorer II is available in Oystersteel and fitted with a three-piece link Oyster bracelet. This bracelet features the Rolex-designed Oysterlock folding safety clasp, which prevents accidental opening. It also benefits from the Easylink rapid extension system, developed by the brand, which allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm for greater comfort in any circumstance.
Chromalight display
The Explorer II offers outstanding legibility in any circumstance. Even in the dark, its simple, high-contrast dial remains perfectly legible thanks to the Chromalight display: the hour markers and hands are filled or coated with a luminescent material that emits a blue glow.
Calibre 3285
The Explorer II is equipped with calibre 3285, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A consummate example of technology, this movement boasts numerous patented innovations and offers outstanding performance, particularly in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability.
Superlative Chronometer Certification
The Explorer holds the Superlative Chronometer certification. This exclusive title attests to the timepiece's outstanding performance on the wrist. This internal certification is rigorously controlled by independent and internationally recognized Swiss bodies.
The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that accompanies every Rolex watch, along with a five-year international warranty.
